The Executive Director of the Bulgarian gas transmission operator Bulgartransgaz EAD, Mr. Vladimir Malinov, and the General Director of the Moldovan state gas supplier SA Energocom, Mr. Victor Binzari, signed a Contract for access and transmission of natural gas through Bulgartransgaz EAD’s gas transmission networks; a Contract for the use of a Virtual Trading Point and a Contract for the purchase and sale of natural gas for balancing.
The signed documents create an opportunity for Moldova to diversify and increase the security of natural gas supply thanks to the ensured access to alternative sources - the South-East Europe liquefied gas terminals as well as pipeline gas from Azerbaijan and other alternative suppliers.
The documents were signed in the framework of the visit of the Bulgarian President Mr. Rumen Radev, in Moldova at the invitation of the Moldovan President Mrs. Maia Sandu.
Malinov and Binzari discussed a future cooperation between Bulgartransgaz and Energocom in connection with the projects for the expansion of the underground gas storage facility Chiren and the floating liquefied natural gas terminal near Alexandroupolis, where the Bulgarian operator has a 20% shareholding.
The Energocom company is owned by the Republic of Moldova. The company is the holder of a licence issued by the National Agency for Energy Regulation of Moldova for natural gas supply. By virtue of this licence, SA Energocom is authorised to carry out activities involving the commercial and financial management of contracts for the import and export of gas for the needs of the domestic market of Moldova and sign direct contracts therefor with suppliers, transmission operators and others.
